Risk Analyst


The Risk Analyst role is a full-time permanent role based in Basingstoke and reporting to the Credit Director.

The employer is a lending business originating loans in niche markets, utilising smart leading edge point of sale decision making technology.


The Risk Analyst will play an integral role in:
Merchant underwriting supporting retailer analysis and approval - must be able to balance the qualitative aspects of the role with the quantitative aspects, where speed of turnaround is of the essence.
Production and ongoing enhancement of credit risk reporting, providing timely and accurate monthly and quarterly reports and updates to Risk committees. Analysis to support credit and fraud risk strategy, policy and process development.
Defining and providing analyses to manage credit portfolios against agreed performance indicators.
Provide analytical insights and make strategic recommendations for the full credit risk life-cycle - identifying and exploiting opportunities to combine internal and external data sources to drive improvements in supplier and customer acquisition; customer experience; delinquencies and reductions in bad debt exposure/fraud loss.
Support decision-engine champion-challenger modelling, and scenario and stress testing of current models

Fraud Analysis relating to supplier and the end customer, including responding to account enquiries and fraud detection alerts
Defining and providing analyses to manage credit portfolios against agreed performance indicators.


• Extensive experience in a credit risk environment
• Strong understanding of the fundamental concepts of credit risk management
• Some experience of fraud risk management
• Role relevant qualifications, i.e. educated to degree level and/or evidencing substantial experience in a numerate subject is essential.
• Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of Point of Sale Loans, and Insurance Premium Finance is desirable but not essential.
• A flexible and adaptable approach to change and a willingness to support others to respond in a similar way.
• Achieved targets and met expectations whilst supporting and encouraging others to do the same.
• Both spoken and written communication and presentation skills with experience of adapting style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered.
• Contributed productively to team objectives, sometimes supporting and sometimes leading activities to achieve shared goals.
• Experience of making timely and rational decisions, based on relevant information and experience.
• Planned projects and activities systematically in line with business priorities, using a variety of analysis and problem solving techniques
• Advanced Excel skills desirable but not essential.
